2010

I haven't written anything for a long time because I have been very bogged down with work and family life and by the time I remember to journal I'm too tired to turn the computer on. Then I remembered that I keep this journal so that one day I can give it to Sloane and she will know how much I love her and be reminded of all the crazy things we ahve done together.

My Motto for 2010: I gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which I really stop to look fear in the face. I must do the things I think I cannot do... It is better to try and fail than fail to try.

This is the mantra I keep running through my mind right now. There have been a lot of major developments in our lives and while I take the time to figure out which path to take, I know that if I listen to my heart, the spirit and remind myself of my motto I can accomplish anything.

Lately I've been working on the house and it has been such a hoot to have Sloane as my sidekick. Like me she loves to get her hands dirty and has no fear when it comes diving headfirst into a project. So far we have tiled the backsplash in the kitchen, removed old carpet and installed a new floor in the basement. Next we will be re-tiling the bathroom. I can hardly wait for it to be warm outside, because I have big plans for the back yard too. I want to build a little yoga deck where each morning I can greet the the day with a sun salutation and honor all my blessings.

My excitement for roller derby has been dwindling as the months have grown colder. Right now its time for snowboarding and I haven't had much time to make it to practice in the past month. I have fully made up my mind about continuing to play yet, but seeing things like the video above of my league definitely gets me pumped up. Last month they made it to National's and took 4th place in the nation which is very exciting, but has made practices pretty tough because it seems like all the girls are ready to tear one another to pieces. I even caught myself joining in on some very unsportswomanlike like behavior by preying on some of the weaker players and knocking them down. The game is all about agility and strategy, but I couldn't help myself and felt pretty guilty for some of my take downs. When I apologized to one girl I took out, she looked at me and said "There's no apologizing in derby!!!" I laughed but still felt like I had been a jerk. I'll keep you posted on any new developments and whether or not I decided to keep playing, I did have a really good derby named picked out; Cheerleader Beater! For now, I am focusing on the Colfax marathon in May!

Last night was First Friday at the gallery. That is the night where all the galleries stay open late and roll out the red carpet for the thousands of people who cruise the streets look at all kinds of Art.

Yesterday I hung 3 pictures in the gallery and it was fun to be a fly on the wall and listen in on conversations about my artwork. I was nervous I would hear some rough criticism but everything I heard was pretty positive!

The highlight of the night was when a woman approached me and said she could not afford to buy a print, but she wanted to buy my cards and got teary eyed as she asked to autograph them. I got so excited I got teary eyed too!It was such a compliment and I feel so grateful to be able share my stuff with people and actually have them like it! Its very fulfilling!

Halloween!

We had such a fantastic Halloween. Sloane was dressed as a "princess ballet witch" and I was Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas, and unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of my costume, but I got some great images of Sloane! We worked really hard and had a lot of fun the night before making goodies for the party. Check out our little marshmallow witches and goblin cake! Angie decked her house out it all sorts of decorations and we have decided to make it a yearly tradition to have a party for the kids and adults alike!

Sloane has a new name she likes to call herself now too. Its Princess Ariel Daphne of Genovia. It beats the heck out of the name I tried to rename myself to in the 3rd grade; Shimmeree. I thought that was the perfect name until I had to practice writing it in cursive, there were just way too many m's!

Homecoming!

Can you believe that Olivia is old enough to go to homecoming?! Check out the pictures Dad took - not too shabby! She is absolutely beautiful and is turning into such an amazing young woman. Every time I see or even speak to her she blows my mind with her grace, knowledge and caring! There is a very bright future unfolding in front of this little lady and I am so glad to be a part of it!

Henry

Our Great Dane is 6 months old! He is such a good dog for being so young. We don't have to crate him while were gone which is a big surprise. We think Penelope keeps him in line and out of trouble when we're gone. Its amazing how much he's grown in just a few short months! He is almost as big as Penelope and we expect him to be much bigger! Even though I love my Danes there are two things I can't stand about them 1.) The ginormous deposits they leave behind and 2.) Having them follow me everywhere I go. It makes things really hard when I am in a hurry! Especially because Henry always wants to be touching me. He's even tried climbing in the shower a few times and gets made fun of or being a "mama's boy!"

Mercy Me

I never thought I would see the day that there were christian bands like this one and can hardly wait for them to make a trip to Denver. It will be so much fun, and yes I'll probably cry A LOT! Every time I listen to their music I find it so beautiful I get teary eyed.
